What about a fit mind’s advantages? Many age-related behavioral illnesses are triggered by the fact that we have not taken the opportunity to keep our minds young and interested in new learning. Our subconscious is pushed to form new neural pathways by discovering new information. For the transfer of information from the body to the mind, or for our capacity to form new memories, we need certain neural pathways. We lose fitness if we don’t exercise the brain. There is also the bonus of being able to engage, long past our retirement years, as a productive person. Holding their bodies and minds fit for many elderly people ensures that they are still able to continue to engage, keep them continuously involved, and function as a continuing source of pleasure through their chosen job career.
