6. What about high fructose corn syrup?
Many foods and beverages contain high fructose corn syrup (HFCS). It’s a sweetener made from cornstarch that has additional fructose added to its structure via an enzymatic process.
In terms of fructose content, high fructose corn syrup typically contains 42-55 percent fructose, which is very similar to sucrose (table sugar).
We have not demonstrated high fructose corn syrup to cause more detrimental effects than other traditional caloric sweeteners like a cane or beet sugar.
