4. Gestational Diabetes
You have gestational diabetes or have given birth to a baby who weighs over 9 pounds. Gestational diabetes is a condition in which a woman without diabetes develops high blood sugar levels during pregnancy. Gestational diabetes results in few symptoms; however, it increases the risk of pre-eclampsia, depression, and requiring a Caesarean section. Babies of mothers who have gestational diabetes have a higher risk of developing obesity and type 2 diabetes later in life. Stillbirth. Untreated gestational diabetes can cause a baby’s death either before or shortly after birth.
