Vitamin B12 binds weakly to the most specific Vitamin B12-binding protein, i.e., the intrinsic factor involved in Vitamin B12 absorption in the gastrointestinal tract, and it inhibits Vitamin B12-dependent enzymes, methyl malonyl-CoA mutase, and methionine synthase, strongly.
